Student/Parent Contract
Practice Expectations:
I want my students to succeed and develop the same passion and appreciation for the violin that I have. The best way to achieve this is through focused and organized practice. I expect my students to practice at least 5 days a week to ensure they are making progress and developing technical and musical skills at a reasonable pace. To ensure the student is practicing and to help me track their progress I incorporate monthly practice charts for each student. If a student gets less than five days of practice in, I will have them work on the same material for an additional week until they can perform it at a satisfactory level.
Recitals:
I will hold two recitals each year. One during the summer, and one Christmas Recital toward the end of the year. Each student is expected to perform in each recital. Parents and students are expected to make arrangements with an accompanist of their choice when needed. I can recommend some accompanists, but cannot guarantee their availability.
Payment Policy:
Due on the 1st of each month. I prefer Venmo: @Landyn-Hinojosa
$80/month for 30 min. lesson once a week
$110/month for 60 min. lessons once a week
Late Fee:Payment is due by the 1st of each month. Any payments made after the 1st will incur a $10 late fee. An additional $5 will be added on for every week that goes by without a payment. Consistent late payments may result in termination of instruction.
Lesson Cancellation/Make-up Lesson Policy:
Student-canceled lessons: Monthly tuition reserves the lesson day/time slot that you register your student for. This tuition covers the lesson whether a student is able to attend or not. Please give at least 24 hours notice if possible when your student will miss a lesson, so I can plan accordingly. Missed lessons can be rescheduled by me if it is convenient, but these will not be credited and are not guaranteed. Excessive missing of lessons, without adequate notice may result in termination of instruction.
In cases of illness or other emergency, I am able to do online lessons over Zoom or FaceTime during the student’s reserved lesson day/time (given at least 2 hours notice).
Teacher-canceled lessons: Make-up lessons for missed lessons on my part will always be offered and must be completed within 4 weeks of the missed lesson. Two options will be offered and if neither option works the lesson will be forfeited and no refund will be given. If a student misses any scheduled make-up lesson, that lesson will be forfeited as well and no refund will be given; another makeup lesson will not be offered.
In addition to the two make-up lesson options offered, I may also hold one hour-long masterclass lesson each month that can be used to make up missed lessons. The masterclass will be held when I have 3 confirmed students attending. This is an hour long group lesson that covers two missed weekly 30 min lessons or one missed weekly 60 minute lesson. I will send out reminders when a masterclass opportunity is approaching as an RSVP is required.
During months where recitals are held, the recital can also be used to make up for a missed lesson.
Holidays/School Breaks: There will not be lessons on holidays and over some school breaks. I will send out reminders when lessons are canceled. These lessons will be offset by the months that have 5 weeks included, rather than 4.
Health Information
The health and safety of my students, my family, and myself is extremely important, so I ask that if you/your student or anyone attending the lesson is unwell that you please DO NOT come to your lesson. Zoom/Facetime lessons are available for any student who is under this category. Make-up lesson dates and times and other options can be discussed for anyone who is unable to access Zoom or Facetime.
Photo/Video/Audio Release Form:
Attached is a photo/video release form. To promote the studio and to aid in teaching other students correct posture, technique, and performance etiquette, I plan on featuring photos and videos of several of my student’s performances and/or lessons on my website: hinojosaviolin.com Signing the photo/video/audio release form is completely optional. For those who do sign the release form, it is encouraged that you make a copy of the form after signing it and keep your copy.
Thank you for trusting me with your violin instruction. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns.
Required Materials
Needed:
A violin and bow in the correct size
I recommend purchasing an instrument in person from Classical Strings in Ogden or from Summer Hays as both locations should fit your student for an instrument.
I do not recommend purchasing any instruments online through anywhere other than SharMusic.com as the majority of instruments coming from anywhere else tend to come with several issues preventing students from learning proper technique.
A case for the instrument
A shoulder rest
Rosin
A cleaning cloth (this can be any small soft cloth that won’t scratch the violin)
A music stand to use at home
A tuner and metronome. There are free apps for both that you can get on your smartphone/tablet etc. I recommend Pro Metronome and InsTuner, or purchasing the Korg TM 50 metronome/tuner.
Books: I will need to know the students' experience and playing level before I can assess which books are needed.
A notebook to keep track of practice, lesson plans, and to take notes at lessons
Not needed but recommended:
Andante app for smartphone/tablet to track practice. The app also includes a metronome if you’d rather use it.
A bag to carry books, metronome, and other supplies in.
*Most Materials can be purchased at Piano Gallery and Summerhays or ordered on Amazon or SharMusic.com
